After playing in several roots, rock and folk bands Andy Brassett decided to explore and develop his song writing abilities in various genres and found himself teaming up with close friend Mackenzie Wasalynchuck to perform a unique alternative roots style. After a year performing in local bars and events they happened to invite a recent arrival to Cairns, saxophonist and percussionist Matt Gerdes, for an afternoon Jam session. Bringing his own unique silky tones to the table, the band soon came together as the Brassett Hounds.
