TRIBU BAHARÚ es un combo afro-champetúo de músicos colombianos, influenciados por ‘El Picó’ una cultura con más de 6 décadas de trayectoria en la bio región cultural del caribe. Instrumentalizan la música en vivo, sin perder la particularidad del performance de la escena “Picotera” que se vive en los bailes de “Verbena” generando un estado emocional en los bailadores que ellos llaman ‘Goce Champetúo’, con la música que parieron los hijos de los negros africanos traídos a América. La Champeta es un término que hace alusión a un cuchillo que utilizan los pescadores para quitar las escamas del pescado. Esta música recibe influencias del folclor colombiano y se mezcla con los géneros populares de nuestras verbenas, como el Soukous, Ndombolo, Soweto, Highlife, Kompa Haitiano, Zouk, Calipso y Soca. El objetivo de TRIBU BAHARÚ es transmitir la alegría del ‘ser caribe’ a través del baile, usando como vehículo la música. “ La intención es hacer música para mover el esqueleto y mostrarle al mundo nuestra versión de la cultura Champetúa. ¡Ser Champetúo es Bacano! ”
TRIBU BAHARÚ is an afro-champeta music crew from the Colombian caribbean coast. Champeta music has been denigrated and damned, boycotted and banned, but it can never be stopped: champeta, the ever evolving, high-energy hybrid of Colombian, African and Afro-Caribbean styles just keeps on coming. And leading a new charge are Tribu Baharú, barrelling out of Bogotá, championing their version of champeta, inspired by the legendary, street-shaking Picó sound-systems of Colombia's Caribbean coast, but here played all-live-onstage with sparkling Congolese guitar driven by high-speed bass and drums and the all-animating upfront singers. Tribu Baharú is part of a wave of Nuevas Músicas Colombianas based in the capital city that are reestablishing it as a prime force and adding more ingredients to the recipe.
Nowadays Tribu Baharú transmits not only positive messages but also wants to maintain alive the memory of their ancestors through singing about their culture and implementing their street dialects and Palenquero (Language Spoken in the First free Village of America, San Basilio de Palenque, Colombia, Caribbean.
