In late 2014, Kilian Fischhuber, one of the most successful athletes in competition climbing history announced his retirement from the circuit. In the subsequent months, Kilian turned his attention outside where he quickly achieved some of his hardest sends to date. Having never climbed 8C/V15 in his nearly two decades of climbing, he quickly climbed two problems of the grade in the space of a month. First came Dave Graham's 'From Dirt Grows The Flowers' shortly before a repeat of Dai Koyamada's 'Insanity Of Grandeur,' both at Chironico. Not content with these impressive ascents, Kilian moved from one incredible European bouldering spot to another, making the trip to the legendary Maltatal where, along with fellow Austrian Jakob Schubert he planned to attempt one of the world's very hardest boulder problems; 'The Bügeleisen Sit Start' (8C/V15). This video charts Kilian's journey from plastic pulling to the boulder-strewn forests of Europe as he finds himself inexplicably drawn to this damp, cold project. Although unsuccessful on this visit, Kilian succeeds in making an ascent of the stand variation (8B+/V14) and has vowed to return for the sit start.
