Very often it can seem like climbing shoes are only really designed for high-level performance or those just starting out, with relatively few models on the shelves for intermediate climbers. When Scarpa discontinued their Thunder shoe, there could have been one less, but they have in fact replaced this model with an equally impressive intermediate shoe, the Helix. The Helix is an ideal choice for a second pair of shoes or for those who are looking to stop renting at the wall. It is built for comfort with a padded tongue and asymmetric lacing which will make longer periods on the wall no less comfortable. Even better, the excess edge on the outsole will help with foot placement and edging making them ideal for the advancing climber. In a market swamped with high-level performance shoes with aggressive downturns and super-tight heels, the Helix is a breath of fresh air and a great choice for intermediate climbers.
