Minnesota Lieutenant Governor Tina Smith to replace Franken

Tina Smith, Minnesota’s Democratic Lieutenant Governor was appointed to replace Al Franken as US senator on Wendesday. Smith will serve a one year term in the senate in the place of Al Franken who resigned after being accused of sexual harassment. Smith’s term will conclude in January 2019, she will then run in a special election for the seat. Smith will join fellow Democrat Amy Klobuchar, who became the state’s first woman senator after winning the election a year ago.
