Donald Trump Jr., President Trump's son, acknowledged Senator Al Franken’s recent resignation announcement by tweeting, “...because I'm good enough, I'm smart enough, and God-darnit people like me."
Donald Trump Jr., President Trump's son, acknowledged Senator Al Franken's recent resignation announcement by tweeting, "...because I'm good enough, I'm smart enough, and God-darnit people like me. #Franken"
The quote is a reference to Stuart Smalley, a self-affirmation devotee played by Franken when he was a cast member of 'Saturday Night Live.'
Franken closed that chapter of his life decades ago, and, on Thursday announced he would soon be ending another.
NPR reports that in a speech delivered from the Senate floor, he stated his intention to vacate his post in the near future and commented, "it's become clear that I can't both pursue the Ethics Committee process and at the same time remain an effective senator."
Franken also noted "the irony" of resigning "while a man who has bragged on tape about his history of sexual assaults sits in the Oval Office, and a man who has repeatedly preyed on young girls campaigns for the Senate with the full support of his party."
In recent weeks, a number of women have reported they were inappropriately touched or forcibly kissed by Franken.
