ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Tuesday summoned complete record pertaining to the Hudaibiya Paper Mills case from NAB.

The apex court was hearing NAB's appeal to reopen the Hudaibiya Paper Mills case against the Sharifs. Justice Qazi Faez Esa remarked that suspects in the case were present in Pakistan but NAB had not taken any action against them.

"The suspects were in Pakistan from March 2000 to December 10, 2000 but NAB did nothing," he said. "The original reference was filed by a lieutenant general. Did Nawaz Sharif also influence General (r) Musharraf?" he asked.

Justice Esa further said that when Nawaz Sharif returned to the country on November 27, 2007 General (r) Musharraf was still running the government. Even then, he observed, NAB remained silent for nine months after which it filed a petition to reopen the reference.

In response to the court, the Prosecutor General stated that Nawaz Sharif went abroad on orders of General (r) Pervez Musharraf.

"Musharraf and Nawaz Sharif made a deal with each other according to which the latter was allowed to leave the country," he said.

"But on the reference it is written that Nawaz Sharif was forcefully sent abroad," he said. "In another place it states that he went abroad," he added.

Justice Munir Alam asked the prosecutor to submit all details regarding what office did the suspects hold and how did the influence the cases. Volume 8-A from the JIT's report was presented on the orders of the apex court.

The bench ordered NAB to present the original reference, complaints, sources pertaining to the Hudiabiya Paper Mills case. It also sought complete previous and current records pertaining to the appointment of Chairman NAB.

The court also asked for the complete record of the action taken by NAB on the Hudaibiya Paper Mills. It also sought the petition to reopen the case in 2008.

The case has been adjourned by the court till December 11, 2017
