When asked about President Trump, former White House press secretary Sean Spicer on Wednesday suggested that all sexual misconduct allegations should be "treated seriously."
His comment came during a discussion with Fox Business host Maria Bartiromo.
The two were discussing the dismissal of NBC's Matt Lauer over sexual misconduct allegations when Bartiromo brought up Trump.
"I would say that all allegations should be treated seriously. I think we can't dismiss people who make those," Spicer commented.
In regard to elected officials in particular, he noted, "Depending on what level of government it is, there are appropriate venues that can be discussed in...But ultimately, beyond those venues, then there's obviously voters who get to make a decision whether or not the allegations that...have been made, they have to weigh those in terms of how they are going to vote for a particular individual."
White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders seems to hold a different view, and one that appears to equate votes with exoneration.
When asked at a November 17 briefing whether the dozen-or-so sexual misconduct allegations against Trump should be investigated, she replied, "I think that this was covered pretty extensively during the campaign."
"We addressed that then. The American people, I think, spoke very loud and clear when they elected this president," Sanders further said.
Trump's position on the issue continues to be that reports of his sexual misconduct are "fake news," notes Vanity Fair.
