White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders is firing back after being accused of tweeting a stock photo of a pie.
The controversy, now dubbed #piegate, started with Sanders' Thursday tweet in which she included an image of a beautiful pie along with the message, "I dont cook much these days, but managed this Chocolate Pecan Pie for Thanksgiving at the family farm!"
Many Twitter users reacted with skepticism, including White House reporter April Ryan.
"Show it to us on a table," Ryan wrote. "I am not trying to be funny but folks are already saying #piegate and #fakepie. Show it to us on the table with folks eating it and a pic of you cooking it. I am getting the biggest laugh out of this. I am thankful for this laugh on Black Friday!"
"I cook and bake all the time, she didn't bake this. No way she made this perfectly appointed pie. Done by a professional," someone else tweeted.
However, Sanders also had plenty of support, with journalist Yashar Ali tweeting, "I don't know why people keep saying this is a stock image when it's not. A simple google image search would have solved this for you."
And the press secretary stood her ground in a follow-up post.
"Don't worry @AprilDRyan because I'm nice I'll bake one for you next week #RealPie #FakeNews," Sanders wrote in her response to Ryan.
