Cal Crutchlow - Career Profile

From starting racing aged 13 alongside football trials at Coventry City to becoming the first British MotoGP race winner for 35 years since the great Barry Sheene, Cal Crutchlow sits down with Crash.net to look over his racing career.
From key early moments climbing the national series ladder while also a promising footballer to being convinced to stay in MotoGP by Herve Poncharal after a tricky rookie year, Crutchlow opens up on the cornerstone figures and vital moments which have acted as snapshots in his career.
When Crutchlow rode to victory in the Czech Republic MotoGP in 2016 he not only broke a personal drought stretching back to World Superbikes in 2010, but finally extinguished the UK's 35-year wait for a new premier-class winner. Not since Barry Sheene in 1981 had the Union Jack flown over the top step of a 500cc/MotoGP podium.
Other stand-out performances came in the form of a popular home pole and combative runner-up finish at Silverstone, plus an earlier podium at Sachsenring. Crutchlow marked 2016 as a historic year for British motorcycling racing by clinching a second premier class win, (what is it they say about buses in Britain?) with his second coming at Phillip Island to cap a momentous year for the British rider.
For 2017, Crutchlow once again eyes up the battle at the front against factory riders for LCR Honda with his place firmly secured as one of the fastest riders in the world alongside the likes of Marc Marquez, Jorge Lorenz, Valentino Rossi and Maverick Vinales.
