Upskirting Protest: Russian Student Demands Criminalization

A Russian student made a provocative video in the St. Petersburg subway in an attempt to bring attention to "upskirting."

Upskirting is the act of taking photos up a woman's skirt without her consent. It often happens on public transport. More than a million Russians are active in upskirting forums online, uploading and circulating pictures of women.

Anna Dovgalyuk wants upskirting to be criminalized as it is in Australia, Scotland, and some U.S. states. Anna's video went viral in Russia — but not necessarily for the right reasons. Many criticized her, saying it was a provocative stunt that will only encourage more sexual harassment.

Either way, Anna's upskirting video is making headlines, forcing Russians to confront an issue that's largely been ignored.
