Audi Sport to be honoured ahead of 6 Hours of Bahrain
To mark Audi Sport’s final race in the FIA World Endurance Championship the organisers will honour the legendary four-ringed marque with a “farewell lap” ahead of the start of the 6 hours of Bahrain.
Just before the signal is given for the official formation lap for the final race of the 2016 WEC season, the two Audi R18s will depart from a special spot at the head of the grid for a lap of the Bahrain International Circuit.
The No.7 and No.8 will run in glorious solitude without the other WEC competitors around them in recognition of the huge contribution Audi has made to endurance racing over the last 18 years. At a pre-determined moment, they will then re-take their pole and 4th places on the starting grid.
Audi’s drivers, Team Joest’s management and the Head of Audi Motorsport, Dr Wolfgang Ullrich, have been the subject of many warm and heartfelt tributes this weekend. The drivers received a long and loud round of applause from their fellow competitors at the official drivers’ briefing, Dr Ullrich’s strong relationships with the media were recognised and competitors’ tributes will be made on the grid. Audi will, of course, also receive full recognition at the end of season Awards Ceremony on Sunday night in Bahrain.
