Powerful Earthquake Destroys Buildings in Western Iran

A magnitude 7.3 earthquake shook the Iraq-Iran border on Sunday, November 12, according to the US Geological Survey, killing at least 207 people and injuring hundreds more.The temblor, which struck at 21:48 local time (18:18 GMT), was felt as far away as Qatar, according to Al Jazeera.Among the hardest hit areas was Sarpol-e Zahab, a city in the western Iranian province of Kermanshah, where hospitals were packed with injured people. Footage by one videographer in the city shows damaged buildings missing their facades and rubble in the streets.The ministry of of interior has warned the toll was expected to rise as emergency workers resumed rescue operations at daybreak on Monday.
