With Winter Coming, Crisis Feared in Makeshift Camps Outside Aleppo, Idlib
  • 6 years ago
With winter approaching, heavy bombing by Russian and Syrian regime aircraft have driven thousands of people from southern Aleppo into makeshift camps in the countryside to the city’s west, and to the east of Idlib, local activist media said.“Most of the displaced people went to tents and kiosks east of Idlib and west of Aleppo, in the absence of humanitarian organizations and help from local councils,” a SMART News Agency report said, with high housing prices, even for unsheltered space, also contributing to the exodus. “The United Nations expressed its concern about the continuous and repeated raids on southern Aleppo, in light of massive bombing by the regime’s and Russia’s aircraft in the past days on the villages and towns of the region,” SMART’s report said.Video posted by the pro-Syrian government Hezbollah channel on Friday also reported fighting in the southeastern Aleppo countryside between the Syrian Army and Islamic militant rebel groups left over after Islamic State was driven out.
