Crying too loudly at a funeral in Tajikistan could get you fined $4,000.

As part of several new restrictions on mourners imposed by the nation's government, it's now forbidden for Tajiks to wear black, pull their hair in grief, or cry at a funeral.

Tajikistan President Emomali Rahmon, who has been in office since 1992, has regularly taken aim at customs associated with Islamic fundamentalism. There are rules about the length of beards, the amount of food served at weddings, and a ban on giving newborns "unflattering" names. And now, there are rules on how to grieve.
