Catalonia's former leader Carles Puigdemont and four of his advisers turned themselves into Belgian authorities, according to the BBC. Puigdemont escaped to Belgium after the independence referendum. Puigdemont claimed he will not return to Spain unless he is guaranteed a fair trial. Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy imposed direct rule on Catalonia last week.
