The police officer who confronted and shot the New York City truck attacker has been hailed as a hero for his quick actions that ended the carnage.

28-year-old Ryan Nash, was responding to another incident with his partner John Hasiotis when people told them of the pandemonium a short distance away. The officers ran to the scene and Nash spotted the suspect in the street.

The rented pickup truck had stopped in a street in Lower Manhattan after mowing down and killing eight people on a bike path.
Sayfullo Saipov was brandishing what turned out to be a paintball gun and a pellet gun. Nash immediately opened fire, hitting him in the abdomen and ending the attack.

New York police officer Ryan Nash,
“I appreciate the public recognition of the actions of myself and my fellow officers yesterday. Although I feel that we were just doing our job, like thousands of officers do every day, I understand the importance of yesterday’s events and the role we played. And I am grateful for the recognition we have received”
