Ireland started the stronger of the two sides, with two Jonathan Sexton penalties and a Conor Murray try giving the hosts a 13 point lead after just 28 minutes. However, the Welsh hit back and in the ten minutes before halftime they scored 10 crucial points through a converted Taulupe Faletau try and a Rhys Priestland penalty. Priestland kicked a further two penalties in the second half while Sexton kicked a penalty of his own to end the game all square for this year's first draw of the Championship.
