Following reports on the connection between the Hillary Clinton campaign and the well-known controversial dossier, President Trump took to Twitter Wednesday morning.
"'Clinton campaign & DNC (Democratic National Committee) paid for research that led to the anti-Trump Fake News Dossier," Trump tweeted, quoting Fox News. "'The victim here is the President.' @FoxNews."
A Washington Post report on Tuesday revealed more details on the dossier.
"Marc E. Elias, a lawyer representing the Clinton campaign and the DNC, retained Fusion GPS, a Washington firm, to conduct the research. After that, Fusion GPS hired dossier author Christopher Steele, a former British intelligence officer with ties to the FBI and the U.S. intelligence community, according to those people, who spoke on the condition of anonymity,” the Post noted.
The result of the endeavor at large was a collection of information that suggested ties between Trump and Russia and possible campaign-related cooperation between the Trump camp and the Russian government.
According to CNN, the dossier is being used in the continuing investigation into possible collusion.
The network also notes, “investigators had been able to corroborate some information in the dossier, although not the most salacious allegations.”
