Senator John McCain could not hide his amused reaction when he was asked on ABC's 'The View' if he was afraid of President Trump.
The moment occurred when co-host Whoopi Goldberg mentioned comments Trump had made last week after McCain blasted the administration’s “half-baked, spurious nationalism cooked up by people who would rather find scapegoats than solve problems.”
The president reportedly said during a radio interview the next day, “People have to be careful because at some point, I fight back. I’m being very nice. I’m being very, very nice. But at some point, I fight back, and it won’t be pretty.”
When co-host Sunny Hostin asked McCain if he was scared, he paused for a moment before smiling widely and laughing along with the audience and rest of the panel including his daughter Meghan McCain.
The Arizona lawmaker eventually said, “I mentioned that I had faced greater challenges.”
The two men have traded barbs in the past including Trump calling McCain out multiple times for his “no” votes on the GOP’s efforts to overhaul Obamacare.
Meanwhile, in addition to the speech last week where the senator blasted Trump’s style of leadership, on Sunday, McCain gave an interview criticizing wealthier Americans who had dodged the Vietnam War draft due to issues like bone spurs--a reason the president had used to defer his own service.
Despite the conflict and his ongoing battle with brain cancer, McCain said on 'The View,' “I have a wonderful life. I am the luckiest person you will ever see on this show.”
