This cake great for fans of soccer and FIFA.\r
Ingredients:\r
For square cake:\r
1. 1 butter or vanilla cake mix box\r
2. 1 chocolate cake mix box\r
3. Square baking pan 20 x 20cm (8 x 8inch)\r
For ball cake:\r
1. 1 butter or vanilla cake mix box\r
2. Cake ball tin \r
For decoration:\r
1. Buttercream \r
2. Black and green gel food coloring Wilton or Americolor\r
3. Small amount of plain white fondant\r
4. Red and blue edible food coloring or use same gel food coloring\r
5. Print template of logo and FIFA letters from internet about 6.5cm ( inch) tall, cut out logo and letters\r
6. Round cookie cutters 6.8cm (2.67 inch), 5.8cm (2 1/4 inch)\r
7. Round cake board 16cm (6 inch), 4 strong paper straws, pentagon cookie cutter\r
Method:\r
1. To make square cake: Preheat oven to 180C (350F). Grease and line square baking pan with baking paper. Mix butter cake mix according to instructions on the cake box. Pour into prepared baking pan and bake according to instructions on cake box or until skewer inserted into center comes out clean. Leave in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring onto cooling rack. Repeat same process with chocolate cake mix and square baking pan to make the second cake. Once both cakes are cooled use serrated knife to level both cakes so their flat.\r
2. To make ball cake: Preheat oven to 180C (350F). Generously grease ball cake tins with butter. Place prepared ball cake tins onto tray on their supportive plates. Mix butter or vanilla cake mix according to instructions on the cake box and pour into prepared ball tins. Bake according to instructions on the cake box or until skewer inserted into center comes out clean. Leave for about 15-30 minutes in the tins; use serrated knife to level both cakes and transfer onto cooling rack to cool completely.\r
3. Tint one part of buttercream with black gel food coloring to create black color buttercream. Tint second part with green gel food coloring to create green buttercream. Leave third part as it is plain white buttercream.\r
4. If you like split square cakes on half or leave as it is. Sandwich all square cakes together with buttercream. Use serrated knife to make all four sides straight. Apply thin layer of black buttercream around sides of the cake and place into freezer or refrigerator for about 30 minutes to seal crumb.\r
5. For ball cake: Trim one cake top a little so it can sit flat on cake board. Apply small amount of buttercream onto cake board 16cm (6 inch); place onto center first half of ball cake; apply buttercream and sandwich with second half. Apply small amount of buttercream around ball cake and place into freezer or refrigerator to seal crumb. Put small amount of black buttercream into piping bag fitted with small round tip. Put plain white buttercream into piping bag fitted with small star tip. Put black buttercream into piping bag fitted with small star tip. Take cake from freezer. Use pentagon cookie cutter to create patterns of soccer ball. Pipe black lines between patterns. Then pipe black and white pentagons on cake to look like soccer ball.\r
6. Roll out white fondant and cut out circle using round cookie cutters. Use red and blue edible decorating pen to write and create logo of FIFA. Use white fondant and prepared letters to cut out letters FIFA, place on baking paper to dry.\r
7. To assemble cake: Spread second layer of black buttercream on sides of square cake; push four paper straws onto middle of square cake; place prepared soccer ball cake on top. Put green buttercream into piping bag fitted with grass tip and pipe around ball cake and around bottom part of the cake. Position logo and FIFA in front of the cake.
