"Loving Vincent" Is A Living Van Gogh Painting
  • 7 years ago
This film on Vincent van Gogh's life is the first-ever painted feature movie.

In "Loving Vincent," which follows the last few weeks of van Gogh's life, the movie uses his paintings' backgrounds, subjects and style to examine the mystery behind his suicide. The $5.5 million film took seven years and 125 artists to produce.

Live action was shot in a two-week period with casting based on likeness in paintings. Then, artists fused backgrounds and the actors' performances to render 65,000 frames, which were brought to life with stop-motion animation.

The movie examines van Gogh, marrying his painting style to the story of his life.
