RAW: Giant Nazi eagle salvaged from WWII shipwreck goes on auction
  • 7 years ago
Footage shows the recovery of a bronze Nazi eagle embossed with a swastika that was salvaged from the shipwrecked Admiral Graf Spee warship off the coast of Montevideo in 2006. The statue is now set to go on auction, and bids are thought to start at $26 million.
Weighing between 300 and 400 kilograms and measuring 2.74 meters wide, the eagle was found on the stern of the sunken Graf Spee battleship. The Nazi German vessel was scuttled by its captain off the coast of Uruguay in 1939 following a sea battle with the UK Royal Navy.
