A barley field in the U.K. is the world's first fully autonomously-farmed crop.

It was planted and harvested using drones and autonomous vehicles. Even the tractors were driverless. The field was a project of "Hands Free Hectare."

While the technology is still too cost-prohibitive for the average consumer, its creators believe automation will improve agriculture as it becomes more widely available. And as for the first barley harvest? "Hands Free Hectare" is celebrating by brewing beer.

Looks like robot farmers could feed the future after all.
