Syria: National football team given hero’s welcome despite Australia defeat

The Syrian national football team received a warm welcome from supporters on arrival in Jdaidit Yabws, on Thursday, after travelling from Australia where they were defeated in the second leg of a World Cup 2018 qualifying match.
The team nearly made it to the final stage of the World Cup qualification process, despite unfavourable circumstances including the country's ongoing civil war and a low level of funding.
