U.S. trio win Nobel for finding Einstein's gravitational waves
  • 7 years ago
The 2017 Nobel prize in physics has been awarded to three American scientists for their discovery of gravitational waves. Albert Einstein predicted the ripples in the fabric of spacetime a century ago in his theory of relativity. Sweden's Royal Academy of Sciences announced Tuesday that the winners are Rainer Weiss of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Barry Barish and Kip Thorne of the California Institute of Technology. The three will share the nine million kronor ($1.1 million) prize.
