Chaos erupts in Barcelona over Catalonia referendum vote
  • 7 years ago
Protesters are blocking major roads in Catalonia as Catalans expressed their anger at the violent crackdown by Spanish security forces of Sunday's disputed independence referendum. Shops were closed, universities halted classes and transport companies ran reduced services. Barcelona port was at a standstill, sources said. What we need is a democratic response. And we need a political solution. And we need an inclusive solution that listens to the cries of millions of people. Mayor of Barcelona Ada Colau "The streets will always be ours," protesters chanted.
