The Three Sisters in Taranaki - New Zealand's Biggest Gap Year – BackpackerGuide.NZ

About this video:

Today we are driving north of New Plymouth to see three amazing rock formations called the Three Sisters. They sit along the rugged Taranaki coastline just outside of a small town called Tongaporutu. This also used to be the site of Elephant Rock before it lost its trunk in an earthquake...

You can only reach the Three Sisters in Taranaki at low tide, but we arrive an hour into low tide, giving us limited time to spend with the Three Sisters. Nevertheless, the whole walk to the Three Sisters alongside sheer cliffs and awesome rock formations is a stunning one. There are also arches and boulders to see.

Along the way we find a merman and his princess, so they join us for the walk back from the Three Sisters.

So what do you think of the Three Sisters in Taranaki (and The Elephant Rock before it lost its trunk)? Are the Three Sisters somewhere you would add to your New Zealand travels?
