Donald Trump praises Las Vegas police for "miraculous" quick downing of shooter

US President Donald Trump was fulsome in praise for the Las Vegas police who he said had found and neutralised the shooter with “miraculous” speed, thus preventing heavier loss of life.

Sandy Hook was 5 years ago.

What has congress done since then (besides “thoughts & prayers”) to protect us from terrorists? #LasVegas— Matt (@nosoupforgeorge) October 2, 2017

Unlike statements made by former President Obama on occasions like these, there was not a world about gun control, but there were pleas for prayer.

I’m a military veteran and a gun owner, and I am sick of right-wing nut jobs exploiting “patriotism” to justify their inaction in the face of the horrific slaughter of our fellow citizens.

This is not patriotism. It is cowardice.#LasVegas— Charles Clymer️‍ (@cmclymer) October 2, 2017

“It was an act of pure evil. To the families of the victims, we are praying for you and we are here for you. And we ask God to help see you through this very dark period. I will be visiting Las Vegas on Wednesday to meet with law enforcement, first responders and the families of the victims. In moments of tragedy and horror, America comes together as one,” he said.

Sad day. Love and prayers #lasvegas. Let’s not let hate win. Be kind to one another. #FightHatewithLove— Mike Tyson (@MikeTyson) October 2, 2017

The response of ordinary Las Vegans was, indeed, notable, as people stopped in their tracks to answer appeals for help, taking bleeding victims to local hospitals in their cars after ambulance services were overwhelmed.
Trump has ordered American flags to be flown at half-mast to honour those lost and wounded in the shooting.

Exactly how many innocent people have to die in atrocities like #LasVegas before the right to “bear arms” is curbed in the USA?— George Galloway (@georgegalloway) October 2, 2017
