Portrays a farm family from St. Clairsville, Ohio who are members of an REA co-operative, and contrasts their life before and after electricity. More difficult tasks are done the old way--the hard way without electrical power. Shows woman doing the weekly clothes washing task without the benefit of an electric clothes washer, heating water over the fire in an open hearth fireplace and using galvanized washtubs and scrub board or wash board to get the clothes clean. Young girl cleaning the chimney of a kerosene or coal oil lamp and filling the lamp reservoir. Farmer loading hay on a horse drawn wagon and cutting corn by hand. Women hanging out the washed clothes to dry on a clothes line. Shows woman ironing clothes, irons heated on top of wood burning stove. Woman lights kerosene lamp as family sits down to dinner around the dinner table. Farm family eating dinner. Farm children ( boy and girl) doing school work by the light of a coal oil lamp. 1930s\r
