10th November, 1983. Marvelous Marvin Hagler takes on the “Hands of Stone” or “Manos De Piedra” Roberto Duran, as Hagler looks to defend his Undisputed Middleweight Championship against Duran, with his WBC, WBA and IBF titles on the line. Hagler was a 4-1 favorite.\r

This is one of the all time great slugfests thats competitive from beginning to the end. Power shots, punching combination and a wide assortment of punches were delivered by both fighters. Some had believe that Hagler would knock out Duran who is not a natural Middleweight but Duran once again proved himself to be the boxing legend he is and pushed Hagler to the limits.\r

The crowd was ecstatic the entire bout with non stop back and forth ion. \r

Duran had long established himself as a true ATG after he dominated the Lightweight division for 11 years (1968 to 1989), having beaten top Lightweights such as Ken Buchanan,Angel Robinson Garcia, Gerardo Ferrat, Monroe Brooks, Hiroshi Kobayashi, Guts Ishimatsu, Saoul Mamby, Lou Bizzarro, Ray Lampkin, Edwin Viruet (2x) and his most notable wins against Esteban De Jesus (2x), avenging his lone loss against De Jesus in 1972. \r

Duran would vacate the Lightweight crown to take on a prime Sugar Ray Leonard in “The Brawl in Montreal”, winning a close but clear decision In what is considered to be one of his greatest performances ever. Duran then continued to rack up wins over Luigi Minchillo, Pipino Cuevas and a one sided brutal beatdown of Davey Moore before moving up to Middleweight to challenge Hagler.\r

After this bout, Duran would add yet another glorious victory against Iran “The Blade” Barkley in a close split decision victory in 1989. Duran scored a knockdown in the 11th, which made the biggest difference in the scorecards, contributing to his victory.\r

Hagler had 7 successful title defenses since winning the WBC and WBA Middleweight straps against Alan Minter in the infamous fight where the riot took place after hometown favorite Minter was unable to continue during in the 3rd round. Before facing Minter, Hagler had wins over Marcos Geraldo, Loucif Hamani, Bennie Briscoe, Doug Demmings, Eugene Hart, Willie Monroe (2x), Bobby Watts (2x), Sugar Ray Seales (2x) and Kevin Finnegan (2x).\r

After this bout, Hagler would successfully defend his Middleweight titles against Juan Roldan, Mustafa Hamsho and most notably against John Mugabi in a gruelling 11 round battle and perhaps his best victory over Thomas Hearns in what is considered to be the greatest three rounds in boxing; The War.\r
