White House senior adviser Jared Kushner is drawing attention for somehow being listed as a woman on his voter registration.
Wired, which broke the story Wednesday, is reporting that the New York State Board of Elections has an active profile on him where his gender is marked as “female.”
The site acknowledges that it doesn’t know why the selection was made, but it does speculate that the error may have been the result of a mistake the president's son-in-law made when filling out the form.
The Washington Post notes that Kushner has been criticized in the past for omitting numerous assets in government financial disclosure forms and dozens of contacts with foreign officials in a national security questionnaire; he has since had to refile them.
Based on this pattern, Brad Bainum, with the Democratic group American Bridge, told Wired, “Kushner can't even fill out the most basic paperwork without screwing it up, so it's a mystery why anyone thinks he's somehow going to bring peace to the Middle East.”
Meanwhile, some on social media called it an example of the voter fraud President Trump has been trying to seek out while others attributed it to simple incompetence or possibly a data entry error.
