Saudi Arabia: money-saving decree?

It’s been hailed as a step in the right direction for human rights and it could save families billions, economists predict. Saudi Arabia’s decree allowing women to drive promises to change the lives of millions.

The ruling is unlikely to take effect before June 2018. Once in action, it’s expected to boost employment as women find it easier to work.

The religiously-inspired ban saw many households employ a paid chauffeur and hundreds of thousands of foreign drivers could be out of a job once women get behind the wheel. However, families’ disposable incomes are expected to rise.
