Microsoft and Facebook's massive data cable is ridiculously fast

Microsoft and Facebook completed building a massive undersea data cable called Marea that will boast data speeds up to 160 TB/second. That is over 16 million times faster than the average home internet connection, Microsoft says. The cable crosses the Atlantic and connects Virginia Beach to Bilbao, Spain. It is 4,000 miles long and lies over 17,000 feet below the surface. Marea has an open design, which will allow it to adapt as technology changes and demands for better speed spring up. Marea will be operational by early 2018.
