Episode 10 - Freeline Skates | Independent Skateboards WTF!!! \r
\r
What they hell are these you ask! Well nothing other than Freeline Skates! Freeline who, you say? Freeline skates!!\r
\r
Were talking two mini independent skateboards. Invented in 2003 by a man known as Ryan Farrelly out of San Francisco California. He was in the process of finding a better way to engineer downhill skating. When after numerous prototypes, he stumbled upon Freeline Skates.\r
\r
Made out of reinforced aluminum and specially designed trucks, Freeline Skates are unlike anything you have ever ridden or heard of. No straps to strap into. You simply place your feet on them and ride. Your body weight combined with the sand paper type gripping paper, keep you planted while you ride.\r
\r
I must say Freeline Skates were a bit steep on the learning curve. Took me about two weeks just to learn how to go in a straight line on them. After I was comfortable with that, I started learning how to wave. This is where Freelines really shine. You ually create momentum from the twisting and turning which provided propulsion. No need to kick your foot off to give you a boost like on a traditional skateboard.\r
\r
And talk about a workout! Freeline Skates taught me about sore muscles in places I never knew I had. Inner thigh workout to the extreme! \r
\r
Many tricks can be done on them but I simply am not one for pushing my own limits. Mainly because I dont enjoy the painful learning curve that usually follows with trying tricks. Maybe in the water but certainly not on the concrete.\r
\r
I highly recommend Freeline Skates for anyone looking for an attention grabbing sport which looks like something from a different planet. Roughly costing $100 new, Freeline Skates are affordable, fun with just the right amount of strange.\r
