THE END of the world could occur today if conspiracy theories about the mythical Nibiru come to fruition. But will the world really come to an end? Thousands of conspiracy theorists have been going wild with rumours about the world ending today on September 23.An outrageous theory about a rogue Planet X, known as Nibiru, claims that the colossal planet will pass earth to start the apocalypse.The main purveyor of the doomsday prophecy is Christian numerologist David Meade who published his theories in his book, Planet X – The 2017 Arrival.The author has spectacularly claimed that Nibiru’s approach will match an astrological constellation from the biblical Book of Revelation. The 12:1–2 passage in question, reads: "And a great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of 12 stars. “She was pregnant and was crying out in birth pains and the agony of giving birth."But on the eve of the apocalypse, Mr Meade has come out to claim that actually, the world is not about to end.“The world is not ending, but the world as we know it is ending,” he told The Washington Post. “A major part of the world will not be the same the beginning of October.” Instead, the world will be rocked by a seven-year-long period of Tribulation, during which the Earth will be ravaged in preparation for the second coming of Jesus Christ.Writing a guest article for conspiracy website Planet X, Mr Meade explained: "Nothing is expected to happen in September."It is possible at the end of October we may be about to enter into the seven-year Tribulation period, to be followed by a Millennium of peace."When Wormwood (Revelation 8) is on close approach to Earth sometime during the Tribulation, you’ll have solar flares and a possible loss of the electrical grid for weeks, maybe longer." All of these claims however have been rubbished by the world’s leading astronomers and scientists.Nasa issued a statement debunking the Nibiru hoax, reminding that Planet X was already supposed to smash into Earth in 2012 and 2003. The American space agency said: “Various people are ‘predicting’ that the world will end Sept. 23 when another planet collides with Earth. “The planet in question, Niburu, doesn't exist, so there will be no collision. “As you can see from the Q&A below, the story of Niburu has been around for years (as has the "days of darkness" tale) and is periodically recycled into new apocalyptic fables. “Nibiru and other stories about wayward planets are an Internet hoax. There is no factual basis for these claims.”Nick Pope, a former investigator for the British Ministry of Defence (MoD), has also offered voice of reason.The UFO expert said: "I'm disappointed but not surprised at some of the end of the world predictions currently doing the rounds. "Nibiru doesn't exist. The world won't end on 23 September. All that's happening is that a hoax is being perpetuated in the name of evangelical Christianity.
