WATCH: Jeremy Corbyn snaps at BBC London reporter over Sadiq Khan question
THIS is the moment Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn snaps at a BBC London journalist after being asked about if London mayor Sadiq Khan will be allowed to speak at the Labour annual conference in Brighton. The opposition leader said he was "delighted" the Mayor of London could deliver a speech at the Labour annual conference in Brighton over the weekend.However, when BBC London reporter Tim Donovan asked how Mr Corbyn had made his decision after days of speculation Mr Khan would not be given a spot on the stage, the Labour leader exploded.Visibly irritated, Mr Corbyn said: "Listen, it's not up to me! I'm the leader of the party but it's also a democratic party. "Sadiq is speaking and I'm delighted he is and I'm looking forward to it."This is a democratic process. The national executive is elected to manage the Labour party. The conference arrangement committee is elected to manage the conference."There was a discussion and suggestions were made, agreements were reached and Sadiq is speaking. "Mr Corbyn told Mr Donovan he had wanted to reduce the number of high-profile speakers to give more space to ordinary party members.
He said: "I have done that to a large extent, there's going to be much shorter speeches from the platform but Sadiq is speaking."The Mayor of London has been critical of the current party leader and backed Owen Smith's leadership challenge in 2016.Mr Corbyn praised Mr Khan's "incredible work" in handling the crisis that have affected London over the past year and dismissed claims of a snub attempt saying it was nothing but "obsessive speculation."At last year's conference, Mr Khan delivered a poignant speech under the theme "Labour in power" that was seen by many as a warning to Mr Corbyn to remember the importance of victory at the polls.. 00FastNews.
