What will Theresa May say?Mrs May will declare that “Britain’s future is bright” as she calls for a bold and creative agreement with the EU.Speaking directly to the 27 EU leaders, she will say that they all have a “profound sense of responsibility to make this change work smoothly and sensibly”“If we can do that, then when this chapter of our European history is written, it will be remembered not for the differences we faced, but for the vision we showed; not for the challenges we endured but for the creativity we used to overcome them; not for a relationship that ended but a new partnership that began,” she will say.“While the UK's departure from the EU is inevitably a difficult process, it is in all of our interests for our negotiations to succeed. “So I believe we share a profound sense of responsibility to make this change work smoothly and sensibly, not just for people today but for the next generation who will inherit the world we leave them.“The eyes of the world are on us but if we can be imaginative and creative about the way we establish this new relationship ... I believe we can be optimistic about the future we can build for the UK and for the EU.”Mrs May is turning her attention to the EU27 after Brexit talks with EU Commission chiefs hit a stalemate.Negotiations will resume next week, but the Commission’s chief negotiator Michel Barnier has already warned that he will not back down over the issue of Britain’s divorce bill. Transport Secretary Chris Grayling has said that Britain is “a nation that meets its obligations”.He told BBC Radio 4's Today programme: "We have said all the way through that we are a nation that meets its obligations, that's right and proper, we should always be a nation that meets its obligations, and that's something the Prime Minister is going to say again today."Mr Grayling said Mrs May would set out the "principles" of a future relationship with the bloc but will not go into fine detail on immigration and any transitional agreement. Pressed on whether there would be access to the single market during the transition period, he told the programme: "We've been very clear all the way through that freedom of movement comes to an end when we leave the European Union.“What we're saying is that we want to make a transition to life outside the European Union the best possible transition for British citizens, British businesses, EU citizens, EU businesses.“We have a responsibility to the people in Zeebrugge and Calais whose livelihoods depend upon commerce with the United Kingdom, and to the businesses in the United Kingdom whose livelihoods depend on commerce with the European Union, to make that transition as smooth as possible.”. 00FastNews.
