Report: Mueller Has Asked For Documents About Trump’s Actions As President

Special counsel Robert Mueller is reportedly seeking information about Donald Trump’s own actions as president.
According to the New York Times, which broke the story Wednesday based on inside sources, Mueller has asked for documents related to the dismissals of former national security adviser Michael Flynn and former FBI director James Comey as well as those surrounding Trump’s meeting with Russian officials in May.
“The document requests provide the most details to date about the breadth of Mr. Mueller’s investigation, and show that several aspects of his inquiry are focused squarely on Mr. Trump’s behavior in the White House,” the Times piece points out.
The three cited incidents were notable events early on in the administration; in mid-February, less than a month after Trump was sworn in, Flynn stepped down after admitting to not having been completely forthcoming about his contacts with Sergey Kislyak, Russian ambassador to the U.S.
Less than three months later, the White House announced that Trump had fired Comey.
And the day after Comey was dismissed, Trump had an Oval Office meeting with Kislyak and Sergei Lavrov, Russia's foreign minister, notes CNBC.
Trump reportedly told them, “I just fired the head of the FBI. He was crazy, a real nut job. I faced great pressure because of Russia. That's taken off.”
Nevertheless, he has continued to deny any involvement in Russia’s efforts to sway the 2016 election in his favor.
The focus on Trump follows reported requests by Mueller’s team to speak with others close to the president including former top officials Sean Spicer and Reince Priebus as well as current communications director Hope Hicks.
