Why Treasury Secretary Mnuchin Canceled His Government Jet Request
  • 7 years ago
Aww, isn't that romantic? Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin asked to use a government plane to travel overseas during his honeymoon--but now he's changed his mind. According to NBC News, a Treasury spokesman said Wednesday that Mnuchin had made the request earlier this year so he could have "secure communications" during his flight. However, he was able to secure the same level of security on a private plane, so he has withdrawn the request. That was probably a very good call, as Mnuchin and his wife, actress Louise Linton, have found themselves under a barrage of criticism in recent weeks. Last month, the couple traveled to Kentucky, where Mnuchin participated at an event at Fort Knox. However, the couple also spent part of the day watching the eclipse. When Linton was criticized for bragging about it on Instagram, as well as tackily name-dropping all the designer gear she wore that day, she jeered at her critics, who she claimed made less money and contributed less to the American tax base than her husband did.
