Exploring Tampa’s Dried-Up Bay Ahead Of Hurricane Irma
  • 7 years ago
Hurricane Irma has been a destructive force in Florida. One thing it's destroyed, at least temporarily, is the Tampa waterfront.

As Hurricane Irma approached Tampa, water was pulled out of the harbor in what's called a "reverse storm surge." Strong winds pushed the water out of the bay, drying it up. But meteorologists warn that water will come rushing back after Irma passes through.

That hasn't stopped people from heading to the beach to explore the once water-covered landscape. And with all of the city's parks closed during the storm, the empty bay is also being used as a temporary dog park.
