Pope Francis suggested Sunday that President Trump’s decision to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program is contrary to pro-life values.
Pope Francis suggested Sunday that President Trump’s decision to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program is contrary to pro-life values, reports CNN.
“[The President of the United States] presents himself as a pro-life man. If he is a good pro-lifer, he should understand that the family is the cradle of life and you must defend its unity," the Pope said during a press conference on the papal plane, which was en route from Colombia to Rome.
After acknowledging that he was unfamiliar with some of DACA's specifics, he commented in general that, “removing young people from their family is not a thing that bears good fruit, neither for the young person nor the family."
Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced Tuesday that the program offering protection against deportation to individuals brought into the U.S. as children is being "rescinded."
Hours later, President Trump spoke about those affected by the decision.
“Well, I have a great heart for the folks we’re talking about — a great love for them…I have a love for these people, and hopefully now Congress will be able to help them and do it properly," Trump said.
