Kinder Surprise originated in 1973 in Italy as Kinder Sorpresa. The German word Kinder in the name came about because, in 1967, Ferreros German subsidiary introduced Kinder Chocolate (Kinderschokolade) to the German market and in 1968 that product was introduced to Ferreros native Italy, establishing the Kinder brand there, before the introduction of the Kinder Sorpresa chocolate eggs. Kinder Surprise eggs were introduced to the German market in 1974, and for many years this was the largest market for the product. The concept of introducing a toy in a chocolate seems to have originated in Argentina in 1962, with the introduction in the market of Jack chocolate by the FelFort company.\r
