Senator Kamala Harris appears to be open to the possibility that President Trump could be called to testify about his campaign and Russia’s efforts to sway the 2016 election.
During an interview with MSNBC, the California Democrat who is also a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, was asked if such a hearing was “off the table,” and she responded by saying simply, “No.”
She then confirmed that the option is possible but declined to outline the specific conditions under which such an event would occur.
The line of questioning comes just a day after the president’s son, Donald Trump Jr., made his own appearance before Senate Judiciary Committee staffers to answer questions about the controversial meeting he had with a Russian lawyer in June 2016, notes The Hill.
The New York Times reports that the session lasted for more than five hours, and while he admitted to being interested in learning potentially compromising information about Hillary Clinton, Trump Jr. continued to maintain that nothing substantive was gained from their conversation.
He also denied having any role in Russia’s interference with the U.S. election.
