History has always been the foundation of creation.
My name is Loren Hutchins and I am a photographer in Seoul.
The Dongdaemun gate stands in the middle of the city with its long preserved history of Seoul.
And next to it, there’s an attraction that shows the Seoul of today.
It is Dongdaemun Design Plaza, or DDP.
After opening in 2014, DDP has become one of Seoul’s landmarks within a short period of time.
DDP was built on top of the city wall of the Joseon Dynasty period and Seoul’s representative stadium.
The unique design that reminds of a spaceship was a talk of the town from the beginning.
The British architect that designed the DDP was inspired from the landscape of Korea and its natural curves.
It has open paths in any direction you choose to walk.
Citizens who visit can naturally enjoy all spaces of DDP.
Seasonal markets showcase various goods which give diverse opportunities for consumers.
Fitting to the name of ‘Design Plaza’,
various design products are sold inside the DDP and
practical design classes that anyone can participate in are also held.
Also other events, exhibitions, and forums are held all throughout the year,
never allowing DDP to be dull at any given moment.
As the night falls in the city, DDP transforms into a different form.
Seoul’s countless stories.
DDP is on its way to creating its new history on top of it.
