It’s not uncommon for nations to give gifts to visiting leaders, and the Daily Beast recently found out what treasures Saudi Arabia lavished upon President Trump back in May.
The news site reports, “the White House accepted at least 83 separate gifts from Saudi Arabia, according to a document The Daily Beast has obtained via a Freedom of Information Act request to the State Department.”
Among the items listed are a number of robes, some lined in cheetah or tiger fur, an artwork depicting the U.S. president, and a, “dagger made of pure silver with mother of pearl sheath and various designs.”
The inventory also notes a number of garments adorned with “gold detailing” and some shirts that are outfitted with a, “leather ammo belt and holster.”
Trump’s trip to Saudi Arabia was the first official international visit of his presidency, and, while there, he avoided broaching a number of sensitive topics, such as the nation's treatment of women.
The Atlantic reports that while Trump did rebuke jihadist terrorists for their, “oppression of women,” he commented, “Saudi Arabia’s Vision for 2030 is an important and encouraging statement of tolerance, respect, empowering women, and economic development.”
Trump also refrained from commenting on the democracy-challenged nation’s leadership style, saying only, “We are not here to lecture—we are not here to tell other people how to live, what to do, who to be.”
