US Immigration And Customs Enforcement Warns Of Imposters Looting Homes In Houston

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement is warning people in Houston to be on the watch for imposters.
In the wake of Hurricane Harvey, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is warning people in Houston to be on the watch for imposters, reports The Hill.
In a statement released on Wednesday, it states, “There are disturbing reports that people impersonating Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) special agents are knocking on doors in the Houston area telling residents to evacuate -- presumably so these imposters can rob the empty homes.”
It continues, “Real HSI officials wear badges that are labeled ‘special agent,’ which members of the public can ask to see and verify. ICE officers with Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) also wear badges labeled with ERO Officer. They also carry credentials with their name and organization.”
ICE encourages people to ask that officers show those means of identification and report all encounters with imposters.
NPR says that as of early Wednesday afternoon, Harvey, which has gone from being a Category 4 hurricane to a tropical storm, has claimed at least 10 lives in Texas.
The media outlet also reports, “…Harvey has made landfall again, this time in Louisiana, according to the National Hurricane Center. The storm hit ‘just west’ of Cameron, La., at 4 a.m. local time.”
