Dr. Paolo Cioni comments on Freud's claim on the origin of faith

Freud had some theories on the origin of faith. Do you think the faith has evolved in humans or was it always there?

I think that faith has always been there from the beginning. I also think that Freud’s theories are very overrated. These theories are not particularly complicated. They are based on materialistic aspects. Everything is explainable through few concepts mainly based on sexuality. Other personalities, like Jung, a psychoanalyst who was more interested in divine and spiritual aspects, have been neglected compared to Freud’s more materialistic theories. I think Freud was awarded for German literature, but he never received a prize for medicine or psychology.
