Some of life’s bigger dreams can take quite a while to come true.
Hong Inh realized one of hers at the age of 103 by finally becoming a U.S. citizen.
Inh lived in Cambodia for the vast majority of her life and suffered great hardships, including hunger, violence, and war, reports the Associated Press.
KCAL notes that years ago, her daughter moved to Southern California and, in 2011, Inh joined her.
After the requisite 5 years, Inh applied for citizenship and, on Tuesday, reported to the Los Angeles Convention Center to make it official, according to KNBC.
She was surrounded by multiple generations of family members, with some helping her to her feet when it came time to take the oath of allegiance.
In a Facebook post, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services extended their congratulations, sharing pictures of the event and writing, “Orange County, CA resident Hong Inh, a 103 year-old woman from Cambodia, making her dream of becoming a US citizen come true. Joined by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren to celebrate this special day!!”
