by Anthony FalcoThe Philippines is now offering to train household dogs to become search and rescue workers in times of disaster.The “just in case” training is offered for free at the Napindan Hydraulic Control Center, part of the Metro Manila Development Authority. There is growing concern from geologists that a magnitude 7.2 earthquake could hit the country’s capital, impacting an estimated  30,000 households, and thus having extra service dogs on call could potentially be life-saving.The agency wants to place three to five dogs in each village, hoping that the family pets could help in a catastrophe.
